While there are very specific ways of <a href=\"https:\/\/unscramblex.com\/\">categorizing words<\/a> \u2013 perhaps the simplest way is deciding whether they\u2019re a noun (a naming word), a verb (an action word), or an adjective (a describing word).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are quick explanations of course \u2013 but even a quick glance at these descriptions is probably enough to tell you that most words can only be one of the three. Well, VocabHead is here to tell you you\u2019re wrong!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are actually many words that can be two different types of word. Take \u2018leg\u201d for example \u2013 it\u2019s both a part of your body and a stage of a race. Hence, it\u2019s both a noun and a verb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What about words that can be nouns, verbs, and adjectives though? They\u2019re rarer \u2013 but not impossible to find! Take a look at 11 examples and some examples of how they can be used!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Criss-cross<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s the name of a pattern \u2013 but it\u2019s word that can be applied to lots of different situations and actions too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Noun: <em>\u201cHis notepad was covered in a criss-cross of different colored lines.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Verb: <em>\u201cThe park was criss-crossed in pathways \u2013 all decorated with beautiful flowers.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adjective: <em>\u201cThe amount of beer he\u2019d had meant he took a criss-cross path across the street.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Flush&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s how we describe a feeling of wealth \u2013 but there\u2019s more to \u201cflush\u201d than just being a noun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Noun: <em>\u201cA flush of embarrassment washed over her face as they read her diary.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Verb: <em>\u201cAll the evidence disappeared with a single flush of the toilet.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adjective: <em>\u201cHe tightened the decking screws until they were flush with the boards.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Express<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Using words to express yourself? This is a word that can help no matter what kind of word you need to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Noun: <em>\u201cHe found it very hard to express his true feelings towards her.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Verb: <em>\u201cI expressed her card and gift \u2013 I didn\u2019t want to miss another birthday!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adjective: <em>\u201cThe CEO didn\u2019t waste any time \u2013 in fact, he had his own express elevator straight to his office.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Solo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It means going it alone \u2013 but \u201csolo\u201d can be a naming word, an action, and also a great word to describe something.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Noun: <em>\u201cThis was only his second dance for the ballet \u2013 but it was also his first solo.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Verb: <em>\u201cHe didn\u2019t work well as part of the band, in every performance it was like he was soloing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adjective: <em>\u201cMany of his fans preferred his solo album.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Short<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite its meaning, you\u2019ll never be short of ways to use this versatile word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Noun: <em>\u201cHe\u2019d made lots of feature films, but this was his first short.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Verb: <em>\u201cThe electrical circuit was never going to work, there was a short they didn\u2019t know about.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adjective: <em>\u201cWe plan to go to Barcelona for a short break next weekend.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wrong<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Turns out there\u2019s no wrong way to use this word \u2013 it\u2019s equally at home as a noun, a verb, or an adjective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Noun: <em>\u201cThe breakup was inevitable, she knew she\u2019d done him a great wrong.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Verb: <em>\u201cThe knight was furious. No one wronged the King and lived to tell the tale.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adjective: <em>\u201cI\u2019m sorry caller! That is the wrong answer!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wholesale<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not just a noun and a way to shop, \u201cwholesale\u201d works equally well as a verb and an adjective too.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Noun: <em>\u201cIf you want to make the biggest possible profit, you should probably avoid wholesale.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Verb: <em>\u201cShe\u2019s importing the furniture, which she now wholesales to stores nationwide.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adjective: <em>\u201cThe bombing campaign resulted in wholesale destruction of the town.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Home<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s no place like home \u2013 but that doesn\u2019t mean \u201chome\u201d can only be an noun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Noun: <em>\u201cHe was so tired \u2013 so he couldn\u2019t have been more relieved to see his home.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Verb: <em>\u201cThey hit the button.
